Fire Destroys Keperra Homes

f3be48047c419bb4b7ef00936764c475Neighbours described hearing a ‘pop’, like a car door being slammed, before looking out their window to see flames shooting out of the weatherboard house in Keperra.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the Blackbutt St in Brisbane’s west at 7.45pm but the house was fully alight by the time they arrived.

“Flames were visible en route,” QFES station officer Bill Opray said.

Four fire trucks and twelve firefighters battled the blaze for almost 15 minutes to get it under control.

“We fought it from bought sides to protect structures on either side,” Mr Opray said.

“[The house is] completely destroyed, they will have to rebuild, they’ve lost everything.”

A neighbour who lives across the street said she heard a man scream at least five times before the fire took the house.

The three occupants of the house managed to escape in time, with one woman taken to hospital with minor burns and another man seen leaving the property draped in a bedsheet.

Residents at an apartment across the street said the fire spread quickly.24d2544223b7ba829d004a10e9152445

“We heard a car door slam, looked out the window and it was well alight,” the neighbour said.

“Firefighters didn’t stand a chance.”

With all residents escaping safely from the home, it further emphasises the importance of working Smoke Alarms.  From January 1, 2017 new smoke alarm laws came into place, you can check them out here http://villagebuzz.com.au/know-new-smoke-alarm-rules/
